Job Interviews Forum - Tricks to get interviews: I read that you should post keywords at ...

I read that you should post keywords at the bottom of your resume and then change the font color to white so it appears invisible. If your resume goes through a scanner, it will pick up those key words and forward your resume. I finally got a callback from an agency that rejected me last month after employing that trick. Any other tricks?

I often see AA or EA positions where you have to have proficiency in various software programs, years of relevant experience, take the job seriously and agree to take on various roles. Most of those positions pay under $13 an hour. What really makes me laugh is how some of those employers will not hire someone who is not local. For example, if the employer is in Santa Monica then you can't be considered if you are not from Santa Monica too. That makes no sense because if you are only making $27,000 a year (before taxes) and a small studio apartment in Santa Monica will easily set you back by $1,000 a month.
Interesting and no I wouldn't feel guilty, but I don't have any friend that could like for me. Don't background checks go through the IRS system and see where people have worked? They wouldn't pick my fake employment up if they did...
No, there is no system that exists that can verify your entire work history. The closest thing is the Work Number, but that is if your fake employer participates and if your prospective employer uses it. I wouldn't worry about it. I also don't have people who will pretend to be fake references so I disguise my voice. Believe me, most companies (big or small) do not look at references too much if they already feel like you are a good fit but technically and culturally. PS- if you have no friend who would be willing to help you get a job by faking a reference, then you don't have any real friends.

Lately, when researching a job, I've been avoiding those managers whom have linkedin profiles. To me, the linkedin crowd are the "corporate drone" types who I know I would have a personality conflict. I just can't be part of a cult. Is this wrong? On several occasions I've verified this generalization is correct and seemingly made the right choice.

Hello, On Monday, September 28th, I had my 2nd interview with the GM at my local Best Buy. I thought I did pretty well in the interview, and went smoothly. After the interview, he said he would call me back the same night telling me if I got the job or not after he interviews the other applicants. He didn't call me that night. I called them on the 30th to follow up with the GM. I asked to speak with the GM, and the sales associate asked who was calling and I gave her my name, then she put me on hold to transfer me. After about 2 minutes, she told me that he said that he's been very busy reviewing the other applicants, and will call me back as soon as he can. Well, it's October 2nd, and I'm a questioning this whole thing. Also, on the Best Buy Jobs website, the job is still open and my HR status is "In progress". My question is if he's going to actually going to call me, or was he just saying that? Should I email him asking where I'm at in the hiring process? Thank you!

I was flown in to interview with a VP and a CEO of a company for a Director position. The next day I was contacted to have a phone interview with another VP, as he said, "to see if he could hit it off with me." They said they would be making a decision early this week. Today I received an email to set up a call with me tomorrow then. It said "are you available for a quick follow up call tomorrow?" I have a bad feeling, should I? What happens on a quick follow up call? Thank you,

Interview last Tuesday, all was great, lasted over an hour, great rapport with manager, etc. At end of interview the manager actually seemed disappointed to tell me she still had to interview a few others (almost rolled her eyes a little?), then apologized for all the steps. She said I will hear back by Friday (3 days later) for 2nd interview with hotel manager, who will meet with top two candidates and tour property. Thank you email sent later that Tuesday, interview day. Friday comes and goes, no call. Today I left a message on her phone for any news, she hasn't called back. *Noticed today the job posting on the company career site IS NO LONGER LISTED* Is it still too early to say? If job is no longer posted, that means it's been filled? And if it's been filled, it must not be me or I would have heard? I can't stand this waiting game, I really want this position. Thanks.

Legally speaking all they can ask your current employer... date of employment, rate of pay, and are you eligible for rehire. Anything beyond that could be viewed as slander or liable. As a hiring manager I can tell you I never check refrences (no one is going to put a bad reference on their resume) and I can tell if they are BS'ing skills in the interview. The application process is just to weed 100 resumes down to 5- 10 to interview.

So i survived the initial phone screen, panel interview and days later I had an interview with an HR manager to discuss their benefits. I thought I was going to get an offer at the end of the call, but she said "We are still interviewing and it would be a week before you here back". It's been more than a week. Is it normal to get the HR interview with a large company and not get an offer? I'm used to smaller companies that offer you once you talk to an HR member. Thanks in advance.
Whenever I feel a moral conflict about being dishonest with my resume, job history or references, I just remember how dishonest some employers were to me. For example, when an employer didn't have the professionalism to let me know they were passing on me or stonewalling a response or trying to low-ball me on the salary.
I understand where the frustration comes from, I really do. I cannot understand how anyone can advocate lying on any level in the workplace. It will always come back to bite you in the behind. What a silly thread. I get that I'm in the overwhelming minority here. But feeling ok about lying? Really? .

could/should you say in an interview that money is not the reason you want to work, that you main priority is finding a position in which you will be able to grow as a person, creatively, to expand your knowledge and skills, that this is a priority over a wage? would this sound unreal, we all need money to live, is it any use pretending otherwise? what if i didnt need the money and actually just wanted an inspiring interesting position,.

I applied for an HR job 3 weeks ago. I had an interview, then had to take a personality test, then five spelling/math tests and then a final interview with the HR VP yesterday. The interview went well and at the end, I asked what the next step was. He said that he had to interview a couple of more people but would let us know who got the job and who didn't. He said he would try to let us know by Wednesday night but he would "be out of the office" for the rest of the day and would be all over so it could be until Monday so we needed to be a little patient. That was an interesting comment because he kept on saying how they really needed to hire someone ASAP so why put off hiring someone for almost another week? Anyways, the truth is that he had already decided who he wanted to hire and offered that person the job on Wednesday. He lied about being too busy to make up his mind because he wanted a few days to negotiate an offer and to give his 1st choice time to consider his offer. If his first choice declines, then he would reach out to his second choice but pretend that his second choice had always been his first choice. Of course he wouldn't admit to that because it would be insulting and that person would leave the minute they found something better. So employers lie all the time but as employees, we are expected to be 100% honest with them.

I have a good offer from a company and I've always been taught to negotiate. I countered for only 5K more and they won't budge. I even asked for equity, signing bonus, whatever they could do to compensate for the extra 5K. They refused. When I first spoke with the recruiter she told me that they really wanted me and would do whatever they could do get me there. Now they won't do anything, which just doesn't make me feel as good about the offer anymore. I should also mention that the role was created specifically for me because I know someone at the company...meaning they don't have any other candidates. Should I just take it because it's only a 5K difference? Or ask one more time.

So I completed a phone interview with a hiring manager 10 days ago. I thought it went pretty well- it felt more like a conversation, the interviewer went into great detail explaining the job tasks to me, as well as other information such as vacation days and working hours. The location of the job vacancy is different than where I'm residing right now- hence the phone interview. The interviewer asked me if I was visiting any time in the near future and when I told her that no, but I'd be more than happy to fly over should they need me too, she quickly responded with "no, it was just a question". Besides that, I was able to answer all of her questions, some with okay answers and some with great answers. She kept saying things like "fair enough" and "makes sense". At the end of the interview, I made sure to ask her several questions about the role and the company, which she again answered in detail. She then told me that they were still interviewing a pool of candidates and that they try to get back to all candidates within two weeks, and that if I were successful, I'd have one more interview. Before closing she mentioned that I should email her with any questions that I had, and that I should follow up with her if I don't hear back in two weeks' time. I've been worried mostly because they were quick in every previous step of the process. I was contacted one week after I applied for an initial phone interview, and one week after that to arrange for this interview. I also feel like some of the things she said could be interpreted in different ways. So, what do you think are the signs of a successful phone interview? Or signs that it didn't go well?

These comments seem rather negative, but they are still mostly true. From an employer's perspective. I posted a job and didn't get a sufficient number of qualified candidates. We interviewed 2 people and neither were a good fit, so we made do for a couple months and then reposted the job hoping to get more/different candidates.
