It's a sure fire way of keeping salaries down! Seriously, it's hard to know how to play this game. My advice, keep your cards close to your chest until you know they want you and you want them. This only applies if your requirements and theirs are in the same sort-of ball park. Here is how it helped me. I was applying for a Fortune 500 job as a contractor working for same company. The HR rep failed to asked me (her error not mine!) what my salary requirements were. If she had, and I had told her, I would have been eliminated immediately from consideration. Fast forward 3+ interviews later and the company really wanted me. I asked for much more money than the position paid but she had backed herself into a corner and was in a weak bargaining position. What made the situation sweetest was that I really didn't care if I got the job or not. End story - I got the $$ I wanted. Do NOT disclose what $$ you want, just say it is negotiable. If forced, give a wide range. If the company really wants you then then they will blink first. If you really want them then you may be will to accept a lower $. It is really hard to commit a $ at the early stage and realistically an employer should not expect that from their applicants unless the $$ are way off.

Whenever they say they are still interviewing other candidates, it means they aren't that interested in you. Why else would they mention that they have other candidates they want to talk to? They don't think you're the best.
So what do you recruiters do when the candidate hasn't lied and has passed all your tests? Do you actually find jobs for them or give them the sad excuse that their skills don't match up perfectly for the jobs that come in?
These tests also will pigeon hole people into a job category that's probably beneath them. I keep getting calls for basic data entry that have nothing to do with accounting , and the recruiter is wondering why I won't accept it.
"the client said they felt you were too qualified" or "the client wanted experience in 6 different things but your experience covered 5 explicitly plus several other things similar and related to that 6th so didn't quite match what they were looking for".
I actually had 5 interviews (quick phone & 4 face to face) with an email marketing company who wanted an experienced unix(redhat & bsd specifically) admin with experience managing & maintaining high traffic apache servers, oracle experience, voip systems (specifically asterisk), php development, and high volume qmail servers. despite having -all- of that & more including experience with mailservers using qmail for high volume systems. each interview I was told they loved me & couldn't wait to get me in. a week after the fourth interview I was told they decided that because my experience with qmail servers was on standard mail usage that dwarfed their traffic by an order of magnitude rather than mass marketing/bulk email they decided to wait until they find someone who "more closely matches the position"
Yes I'm in that unenviable situation where I'm either "too qualified" (seriously wtf?) or lacking a specific enough obscure skill they desire.

I went for an interview on a Wednesday and it went awesome. The manager that interviwed me said they needed more people like me and said I got the job, gave me the employee packet to fill out and told me to take it back the following Monday. So I took it back Monday like she asked, she then told me it would take a few weeks for background check to clear and whatever else. So after two I called and she told me they have a new hiring manager to talk to her. Well when I spoke to her she basically told me I don't have a job. Is it okay for one manager to tell me I got the job and for the new one to say I didn't get the job???
These letters should also be sent to the unemployment offices in your area. They tell us that we have to be actively looking for work and cannot refuse work. What we really are doing is looking for work that does not exist. We come in when called for interviews and are told that they still have a few more to interview, and in the end, it was someone who was internal and they just had to show they give "equal opportunity" to all. What equal opportunity is that? They look at people over 40 and think, that they are too expensive, health insurance costs them more, they have a decade or more experience in the field, and can't pay them entry level wages, don't want them, pick the 25 year old who is a Recent College Grad, with maybe 2 years experience, enough to do the job. They have a 4 year degree in science and working in a Proffesional Services company, where a Business degree would have been a better fit, but they are young and cheap, so why not!
You are wrong about them hiring college grads (at least from the US). They are screwing us too with the jobs.

Hi there 2 days ago I applied for this marketing position and just today received an email from them saying they are interested in my resume. I call the number in the email and set up an interview for tomorrow, the hr rep gave me some what info on the company I believe the rest they will tell me in the interview. I'm guessing this is a small very small company and to me it just seems a little fishy. I have never heard of them I checked there website and it seems weird, I went on different websites such as glass door and a few others looking for reviews and I couldn't find any. I just can't seem to find anything on them at all, also they are so small the rep told me they have about 20 people working in that office and I can't find a bigger corporation with that name. She also told me when we spoke that they are looking to hire someone to then train them as a manager which seems very odd to me since I don't have any degree or experience at all of that sort and we all know if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. Can someone tell me am I just freaking out since I've never really worked for a small company before or is this totally normal maybe it's a new opportunity and maybe I should just go to the interview.

It's been about 2 week since I had a phone interview with the company that I am interested in. There was a first phone screening with HR and then I had a one on one phone interview with hiring manager for 30 minutes. I didn't ask the hiring manger for the next step or the next move but the hiring manager mentioned that she has couple more candidates to interview and will finish making a decision by the day that I had an interview with her. She also said that she will be on vacation and they will conduct on-site interview a week after she returns. She asked me to stay in touch with my hr recruiter who did the phone screening. After the interview, I sent a thank you note (actually, it was two days after the interview) and tried to follow up with my hr recruiter but I haven't heard anything from that person. I believe that I am not the top candidate. However, I haven't got any reject letter. I did everything what I could do. I am really curious why she told me the next step and asked me to stay in touch with the hr recruiter even I did not ask her. This week will be the week that they will interview the top candidates. Should I just move on?
If I'm having a great interview it only takes 1 question to cross me off the list. For example,
How are your Microsoft Access skills?
If I say I'm great with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. But haven't used Access much than I am done. Most of the time the interview is over at that point.
If was never like that in the past.
It wouldn't take them long to bring you up to speed on Access. Employers like that are lazy in my opinion. You can have 99% of what they want, but they will focus on the 1% and then pass on you.

I have looked deeply into how to draw reliable conclusions on the Taleo Oracle interface after using it, applying statistics, and verifying with HR personnel and boards such as this one. Overall, if withdraw disappears, you are out. While it slightly differs by company, overall wording and process is the same:
NO ACTIVITY (noone has looked at your profile): Active, accepting job submissions, view/edit submission, and withdraw will all appear. It may say something like "under consideration by recruiter".
RESUME HAS BEEN PARSED (this means sorted by software, but not rejected): Active, accepting job submissions, view/edit submission, and the withdraw button will no longer appear. Chances are if you are in this category you have been rejected, but the HR person has not completely discarded your profile, however they have not moved you into final review. You are a long reach for what they want.
UNDER FINAL REVIEW (top applicant): If you have an indicator such as "under consideration by hiring manager", or "view submission" with a withdraw option present, then you are under final review.
REJECTED (no longer under consideration): If status is active, accepting job submissions and you have "view submission" with no withdraw option, and there is no indicator of an interview or hiring manager, you have been rejected. It may also say "no longer under consideration".
JOB HAS BEEN FILLED: If status is inactive, the job has been filled and you have been rejected.

Job Interviews Forum - Possible Hoax - Dealerwebb Services: I received an email via Indeed from a co...
I received an email via Indeed from a company called Dealerwebb Services based in Houston, Texas. They thanked me for my resume, and said I was not fit for the job. However I did not apply to this or any job in quite some time. I have not used Indeed in quite sometime (over a year), and thought this account had been closed.
When I called their office, they were very rude, short, and hung up. They did inform me that the email went out to over 200 people who have applied in the past two weeks. I definitely did not apply to them because I am pursuing professional education (think letters after your name like MD, OD, JD, etc) in a different state. I am scared either Dealerwebb or another entity is abusing Indeed.
Please watch out for this email from Dealerwebb. It's suspicious and their hostility is even more suspicious.

Job Interviews Forum - Hiring/interview process at Lowe's: I applied on line last Tuesday for a tot...
I applied on line last Tuesday for a total of 8 positions at two stores. The application included a lengthy evaluation portion that asked at least 50 questions and required a response of either, strongly agree, somewhat agree, neutral, somewhat disagree, strongly disagree.
I received a call from HR on Thursday, two days later, and agreed to interview the next day, Friday, for a seasonal position. The department manager that I was scheduled to interview with, was not in, and so they substituted the interviewer with a manager from another department.
Their interview included a series of nine questions that they scored on a scale 1 thru 5. I don't really remember the details, but they basically presented different scenarios and asked how you've handled them in the past, or if you were presented with a particular situation, how would you handle it.
The interview seemed to go well and the guy told me they were interviewing people for the position until Tuesday, they would have a decision by Wednesday, and they would notify me whether I was offered the job or not. I wasn't hopeful because I never got to meet the department manager that would ultimately decide who to hire for the position in his department.
Wednesday, I received an E-mail stating they went with another candidate. Exactly what I expected. About an hour later, I received a call from HR at the other nearby Lowe's and set up an interview at 11:00 on Friday, for a position that was available there.

The lab is required to notify you first before your employer. They will call you at the number provided (in your case at HOME) and inform you that your test was positive for any of the tested substances. They are not required to tell you which ones and by how much. Some labs give the option to provide the results at an additional fee ( usually around $30). After notifying you, they must wait at least 48 hours before informing your employer of the failed test. You were lucky and got 3 days out of it. You should've packed your box and used that time to find a new job.
